After mentoring nine teens for one school year, we took them on an airplane down to Florida to go scuba diving! With no monetary limits, they got to explore their dreams.
Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.
-William Jennings Bryan
Having started a non-profit for inner-city kids, I learned about money. I knew what it was like not having money growing up but I got to witness teens having limits on their lives by not having. I also got to see what it was like for them when those limits were lifted. What I saw was that our relationship with money was a responsibility: to ourselves, to our children, to our communities.
Then I had my daughter Zoë. These sets of events allowed me to awaken my desire to be financially free. I didn't know how yet but I knew that I was committed to breaking through whatever limiting beliefs I had about money.
I've always been my own boss but I lived under the illusion that I was a business owner creating financial freedom. For over 10 years I was a Web designer. One day I realized that my best-case scenario was to sell one Web site after another and sit in front of the computer trading time for money. While I enjoyed designing sites, I didn't like what I saw in my retirement fund, which at the time was zero. Two friends approached me and they said, "you can just keep selling Web sites while earning an ongoing income since you have nothing to lose.” Both were very different - one business minded, the other a message therapist. They were both committed to the same thing - investing not only in their security but the freedom of their futures. I was compelled to listen and consider the opportunity put before me.
I have since doubled my income. I love working with my friends to create new possibilities all the time. I look forward to the day I can put my daughter's college tuition away by just saving for a couple of months instead of 20 years!
In NY we are so lucky we have amazing mentors who are educated and successful everywhere in their lives and in marketamerica.com. For so long I struggled selling Web sites always battling my competition - now I have a way to be empowered by partnering with my competition - how liberating! How exciting to share and teach others this amazing business opportunity. When my team succeeds, I succeed. I get to choose who my partners are, I get to choose the Web sites I create, I get to choose the life I want. Then I receive the joy of knowing that I have taught others to create real choices for themselves. Thanks NY team, thanks MA.
